Grab your coffee, tease that hair, and shine up those boots — Waco Civic Theatre is bringing the high-energy hit 9 to 5: The Musical to the stage! We’re looking for a dynamic cast of performers to bring this hilarious, heart-filled story of friendship, empowerment, and workplace rebellion to life.
Set in the vibrant world of 1970s office life, 9 to 5 is a hilarious and heart-filled story about friendship, empowerment, and taking control. With an energetic score by Dolly Parton, this musical (based on the 1980 hit movie) delivers powerhouse vocals, big laughs, and a whole lot of fun!

Audition Details:
Sunday, December 7, 6:30-9:30pm
Waco Civic Theatre (1517 Lake Air Drive)
Audition Preparation:
- Prepare 1 minute of a song in the style of the show. A “Broadway Belter” number would be best! Have the song ready to play on your phone (no speaker hook-up) or sing a capella.
- Scripts will be provided during the audition for cold readings to assess character fit. No monologue or advanced preparation needed!
- Auditioners will spend 30 minutes singing and participating in cold readings and 30 minutes dancing to choreography during the 1-hour audition slot.
- There are some non-singing roles, so non-singers are welcome! Please indicate this in the “Comment” section of the signup form below.
- Dress comfortably and bring shoes to dance in.
- All experience levels are welcome to audition – from seasoned performers to first-timers!
Rehearsal Process / Time Commitment:
- Rehearsals will begin the week following auditions.
- Rehearsals generally take place Monday through Thursday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. A more detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided to cast members, including days off for the winter holidays. We strive to be an inclusive environment where we work around jobs and other commitments. During the audition process, we will ask about your availability and schedule conflicts.
- Work Days (build and paint set, help with costumes, etc.) are required and take place on Saturdays 9am-1pm. Cast members will be provided the list of Saturdays they are expected to work.
- Tech Week: 2/8-2/11
- Performances: 2/12-2/14, 2/19-2/21, and 2/26-2/28 at 7:30 p.m. and and 2/14-2/15, 2/21-2/22 and 2/28-3/1 at 2:30 p.m.
Character Breakdown:
Violet
The company’s Head Secretary and Mr. Hart’s Administrative Assistant, she is a single mother and typically stands up for what she believes in. Attractive, strong, ambitious.

The “new” girl at the firm, she has been burned by her husband’s affair and is searching for personal empowerment. Insecure, determined, and hopeful.

The attentive office gossip queen and snitch. She has an unrequited love for Mr. Hart and will do anything she can to win his approval.

***18 years and up only; all acting/voice/dance experience levels, genders, and ethnicities are welcome to audition! Don’t worry if you don’t know your vocal range. Our music directors are trained to help you find the right fit. They’ll make sure your role suits your voice and guide you in keeping it strong and healthy throughout the show.
