Seeking Diverse Performers of All Backgrounds!
Waco Civic Theatre is holding auditions for Blind Willie Johnson, an original play celebrating the life, music, and legacy of the legendary gospel blues musician. We are committed to diverse and inclusive casting and welcome actors of all backgrounds to audition.
Audition Details:
- Audition Date: April 17
- Location: Waco Civic Theatre
- Time: 6:30pm
- No monologue required! Please be prepared to do cold readings from the script.
- Rehearsals: Rehearsals will be twice a week, based on the actors’ schedules
- Performance Dates: June 19, 20, & 22 at Waco Civic Theatre, June 21 at The Palace Theatre in Marlin, TX
About the Play:
Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century America, Blind Willie Johnson tells the inspiring and deeply moving story of a man whose voice and spirit transcended hardship. Through music, struggle, and perseverance, his legacy continues to echo across generations.
Roles Available:
We are casting a dynamic ensemble of performers to bring this story to life. Actors of all backgrounds are encouraged to audition, and musical ability is a plus but not required. Some roles may involve singing, movement, or playing an instrument.

- Bob – Willie Mae’s ex-husband (male)
- Margie – Blind Willie’s stepmom (female)

- Police Officer – Beaumont, TX Officer (male)
- Merlene – Neighbor (female)
- Angelina – Blind Willie’s second wife (female)
We strongly encourage actors from historically underrepresented communities to audition. This production is an opportunity to honor Blind Willie Johnson’s legacy while celebrating the richness of diverse storytelling.
