Songs for a New World – Auditions

Waco Civic Theatre is thrilled to announce auditions for Jason Robert Brown’s powerful and moving song cycle, Songs for a New World — a stunning collection of stories about life, love, and the moments that define us.

From the deck of a Spanish sailing ship to the top of a New York penthouse, each song captures a pivotal “new world” moment — when decisions are made, dreams are tested, and hearts are laid bare. With unforgettable music and soul-stirring lyrics, this production is an incredible showcase for passionate, dynamic vocalists and storytellers.

Audition Details:

Sunday, November 16, 5:30-7:30pm

Waco Civic Theatre (1517 Lake Air Drive)

Audition Preparation:

• Prepare 1 minute of a song that shows your vocal ability. Have the song ready to play on your own device (no speaker hook-up) or sing a capella.
• Prepare a 30-second monologue (find free monologues HERE)
• There will be some movement during auditions, but no choreography
• All experience levels are welcome to audition – from seasoned performers to first-timers!

Rehearsal Process / Time Commitment:

• Rehearsals will begin the week following auditions.
• Rehearsals generally take place Monday through Thursday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. A more detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided to cast members, including days off for the holidays. We strive to be an inclusive environment where we work around jobs and other commitments. During the audition process, we will ask about your availability and schedule conflicts.
• Work Days (build and paint set, help with costumes, etc.) are required and take place on Saturdays 9am-1pm. Cast members will be provided the list of Saturdays they are expected to work.
• Tech Week: Week of January 12 (times TBD)
• Performances:
  • January 16 and 24 at 7:30pm
  • January 17 and 25 at 2:30pm

Roles Available:

We are seeking 6-8 dynamic performers of all identities and backgrounds with strong harmony abilities, solid vocal range, and the flexibility to take on multiple characters.

***18 years and up only; all performance experience levels, genders, and ethnicities are welcome to audition!
