April In Review
April came in hot with a stacked calendar and a whole lot of heart. Silent House Theatre Company took us on a wild ride—literally—with Ride the Cyclone, which ran two powerful weekends at the PACC. Bold, bizarre, and deeply moving, it left audiences buzzing and proved once again that risk-taking theatre has a home in Waco. Meanwhile, Brazos Theatre kept things loose and loud with their Improv Comedy Show, serving up fast laughs and fearless performers.
Auditions were everywhere this month, and the turnout was no joke. Silent House pulled in a crowd for Much Ado About Nothing, showing that Shakespeare’s got staying power when the right folks show up to speak the words. Over at Young Festival Stage, auditions for Androcles and the Lion pointed to something just as important: thoughtful, quality theatre created with younger audiences in mind—no shortcuts, just strong storytelling.
Then came PlayReaders, and like always, it surprised us. We started with Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap, but the room said otherwise—and soon, we found ourselves deep in a cold read of Agnes of God. That shift wasn’t planned, but it was right. That’s the beauty of this program: it meets the moment, reflects who shows up, and reminds us why we gather in the first place.
To wrap the month, Brazos Theatre served up a double helping of mystery and mayhem with their Dinner Theatre Double Feature—Sherlock in Love and The Real Inspector Hound—plus a Pay What You Can preview to keep things accessible. Waco Civic Theatre followed with a short but moving run of The Glass Menagerie, proving that even in just three performances, a classic can still land hard when done with care and clarity.
April showed us what Waco theatre is made of—but more than that, it showed us who’s doing the work. The actors. The volunteers. The people showing up night after night to tell stories that matter. This community doesn’t run on flash. It runs on dedication, sweat, and a real love for the craft. We see it. We’re proud of it. And we can’t wait to see what’s next.
