May In Review
Here’s what happened this month in Waco’s local theatre community!

May came in and went out with a bang—comedy, song, mystery, and meaningful connection filled stages across Waco this month. Waco Civic Theatre started things off with I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, offering a heartfelt and hilarious look at love and relationships in all their messy, beautiful forms. Meanwhile, Brazos Theatre had audiences in stitches with its first Improv Comedy Show of the month, proving once again that spontaneity and sharp wit never go out of style.
Waco Civic Theatre Tours (formerly Heart of Texas Children’s Theatre) brought joy to younger audiences with Elephant & Piggie’s: We Are In A Play! at the Mayborn Museum—a lively, laugh-filled production that reminded us how theatre introduces wonder to all ages.

That same weekend, a brand-new group made their debut: The Callbacks, an a cappella ensemble made up of Waco-based performers, held their first concert at the North Village Community Center, hosted by Therapy Center Stage. It was a powerful reminder that our creative community is always evolving, always growing.
Mid-month, Waco Civic Theatre returned with the grand and ambitious My Fair Lady, launching a three-week run that showcased some of Waco’s finest musical theatre talent. That same weekend, Brazos Theatre brought back its Stand-Up Comedy Showcase, a staple for fans of quick punches and local humor. Waco Civic also opened auditions for The Prince of Egypt: The Musical, continuing their commitment to bringing big, heartfelt stories to the stage.

Our own PlayReaders program added a dash of mystery to the mix with a reading of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. What started as a casual evening of reading turned into a rich exercise in character exploration, collaborative storytelling, and shared imagination—reminding us, once again, how powerful a script can be when it’s placed in the hands of a passionate room. We love that this space continues to evolve based on who shows up and what stories they’re ready to tell.

Wrapping up the month was Silent House Theatre Company’s latest installment of their ongoing S.H.I.T. Show (Silent House Improv Troupe), a reliably wild night of off-the-wall humor, unexpected moments, and the kind of theatre that invites everyone to leave their expectations at the door.
May brought laughter, music, discovery, and a whole lot of heart. But as always, none of it happens without the hard work of the people behind the scenes—and especially the actors. They rehearse through late nights, make bold choices, and carry the weight of each story on their shoulders. We see you, we thank you, and we’re proud to be building something alongside you. Onward to June!
